[Good evening, Johto! It...seems that your resident mouthpiece for Peace and Love has finally found something that's quite frankly annoying the living crap out of him. It's not terribly difficult to see why; he's got a little fluff of a Swablu in one arm, an Unfezant just barely in the shot from where it's standing on the ground nestling its face into his side, and both of them are doing whatever the avian equivalent of "wailing inconsolably" is.

And contrary to whatever Squirt believes, having a Chinchou clinging to his shoulders curiously doesn't seem to be helping matters any.

He kind of huffs a bit before addressing the 'Gear.]

Now, first of all, to the gentleman who poisoned the well in Azalea Town - and I use the term 'gentleman' very, very lightly in your circumstance: I don't care what your stance is on individual challenges. You will be battled eventually. Given your stance on pacifists, I would think you would take the chance for such an easy victory. Try to teach me a lesson, if you like, but I will fight you one day.

Secondly. Should you have two creatures that can't stand each other, and releasing or permanently boxing one isn't an option, what would you recommend doing about it?

[Basically, his life, his choices, his...birds. ffs, his birds get along better with his bugs than they do each other.

If there's no way for them to get along... maybe it might be best to see if maybe you can have one of them stay with someone else for a short while? The time apart might help, especially if they realize they miss each other not being around.

That's a good idea, actually; I hadn't really considered that much - though that does bring up the question of what to do if it doesn't go as planned.

Ahh... well, I have to change who's in the box on a regular basis anyway, because it's a pain but I can't keep them all out at once, so I just make sure that one is never out of the box when the other is. It's not permanent, so... But that's just what's worked for me.

Rotation! Let 'em take turns on bein' out of the box. It'd be a shame to have to release one.

Have you tried making them work or train together?

[Big fluffy Altaria behind Hope is not pleased at teeny Swablu's theatrics and gives a big bird equivalent of an "I am Disappoint" face.] Adversity tends to make anyone set aside their differences in order to at least accomplish something.

Try team exercises or something. Having to work together might at least give them a working relationship where they go ok we gotta work together so let's have a truce and not kill each other.

Have you tried forcing them into contact with one another? Sometimes brute force actually works. Alternatively, attempt to get them to work as a team in a battle. I've found that has worked for me in the past.

Near constantly, unfortunately; I'm sure they'll work it out eventually, it's just frustrating for the time being.

Do you have a lot of experience with these creatures, or are you new to it? I'm not trying to be rude; just curiosity.

You don't have much of a choice at this point; it may not be now, but as I said, it'll happen eventually.

[It's not something he's proud of, but he gets things done when he has to; he's commanded armies to take out one person before. He sees no problem with going after someone personally.]

...the box thing to begin with - it feels cruel, I guess, to take animals from the wild and put them in there, especially since they're so trusting. I use it as sparingly as I can; unfortunately, when I'm out of town I don't have much of a choice, but otherwise it doesn't sit right with me.

That makes sense, yes - at the same time, I can't say I care very much for the box...thing as a whole. It feels kind of cruel, using it so much; I try to avoid it when I can.

But releasing one of them isn't an option; it's not fair to either of them.

What do you mean I don't have a choice? Of course, I have a choice! And I choose no! Didn't you hear me the first time? I am not going to waste my time fighting ssssome charitable idiot who decides to spend his time caring for Slowpokes! I have much more important things to do!

Besides! If it does happen eventually as you ssseem to misguidedly think it will, then the only thing that will happen is your defeat! Your defeat at the hands of Cobra!

[It's less that he's a maverick and more that he's...unfortunately a little prone to going off the rails when major injustices have been carried out. And he's been dealing with Cobra for quite some time now.]

What would you recommend? I'm...not terribly good with animals; that much is probably obvious.

That's true, yes, though some differences can't be overcome. I doubt that this is one of them, but I've had experiences back in my homeland that make me a bit wary of making things come together through circumstance.

How serious are you about fighting these guys? [Tilts her head and gives the camera a curious look] I mean, you just said that you were a pacifist, so...

[Her tone isn't snide, sarcastic, or judgmental - she's genuinely curious about his interest in this]

For the most part, yes. I try to stick to a principle of nonaggression, and not nonviolence; however, there are some people who can't be reasoned with. I believe in mercy, and I won't harm my opposition if it can be avoided, but I acknowledge that sometimes a fight is necessary to ensure peace. Defeating a threat to save many lives is often worth the price.

Given that battles here are generally fought with the creatures and not direct warfare on one another, should it be necessary and the creatures be willing, I'll use them to fight, adhering to the rules established by the authorities in this world.

So... you don't believe in going out and picking fights, but if someone takes the fight to you, you'll do what you need to do to stop it. I think I get that. But...

What if a pokemon battle isn't enough to stop them? I know that's what they do around here, but, well, guys like this don't exactly play by the rules.

He kind of headtilts a little at it, but he doesn't seem too bothered; the question is definitely an interesting one, and he takes a moment to think it over, petting the Swablu, Rina, while he does so - he nods a bit to let her know that he's heard it, but the reply takes a moment.]

...in my experience, I find that pain begets violence, which just begets more pain. Inflicting suffering on others just causes them to inflict it back on you. I don't believe in keeping that cycle going; it's just an obstruction to lasting peace, and I'm not one to tell people that they deserve large amounts of suffering for any reason, as that isn't my right - that's between themselves and the gods.

There's a difference between suffering and punishment, though. Don't maim them when imprisoning will work, but if imprisonment is necessary, then by all means, do it. If nothing else, it'll give you continued access to the person; you can get information about them that way, and that might help stop the cycle without excessive violence.
